Today’s daily prompt is, New Dawn :
How often do you get to (or have to) be awake for sunrise? Tell us about what happened the last time you were up so early (or late…).
Would you judge me, if I answered…… hardly ever?
Admittedly, I’m not an early-riser. I dread waking up at dawn. On working days, I wake up around 7.30am at the most which isn’t too bad at all. On the other days, I would sleep in lavishly and wake up around 9 or 10 am. Waking up early to see the sunrise doesn’t necessarily excite me. I prefer dusk over dawn and I have a runny nose when I wake up too early—what a good excuse for a 20 six-year-old, isn’t it? I dislike getting up early in the morning, mostly because I’m a night owl and secondly, I think sun set is just as beautiful as sun rise. On most nights, I usually sleep after midnight—unless, I have to wake up early for some reason—and I would often miss the sun rise or the chirping of birds. I do love nature for its all ways and forms, but does that mean I have to get up and enjoy listening to some birds screeching at 4am on a horribly cold day when I could rather forget all my responsibilities for a few hours, curl up in my warm bed and sleep like a baby? Damn, right! I don’t do mornings.
On the contrary, if I have a good—I mean, a real good—reason and enough motivation to wake up early, I will set my alarm—or, better yet, ask my mother to wake me up because you can’t snooze a 50 year old fierce lady. On the days that I somehow manage to wake up early, I get to accomplish a lot more. Adding a few hours to my day is always rewarding and productive despite my disliking for waking up early.
I don’t remember the last time that I woke up early because my work schedule has been much lighter for the summer and I didn’t have to wake up earlier than 7.30am. Ironically, I have to wake up around 4.30am tomorrow because my family has planned to take a trip to an Elephant Orphanage which is two and a half hours away from where I live. We have to be there by 8.30am so we need to wake up by 4.30am to allow enough time for driving and getting breakfast on the way. I am excited for the trip, of course—but, not excited for the waking up at 4.30am part at all. May be I can rewrite this post in a few hours and see how I really feel about early rising at 4.30 in the morning on a Saturday!
