Lousy Lyrics

Today’s daily prompt is, Uncanned Laughter:

A misused word, a misremembered song lyric, a cream pie that just happened to be there: tell us about a time you (or someone else) said or did something unintentionally funny.

Wow. Seems like most of the daily writing prompts allow me to share the embarrassing side of being myself.

Well, my sense of humor is all over the place. It could be dry sense of humor at times , extremely oh-my-god-it’s-so-dirty-funny or just lame-funny. No wonder why it’s hard to decide if the last time I laughed was plain crazy or normal. I laugh at the most random things, at weird moments and when people least expect me to laugh. Most of the people I hang out with are the same. We just can make everything seems funny. Sometimes, I’d say a random thing or do something without intending to seem funny, but whatever that I do or say, people would find it amusing and laugh with me—or, at me—with or without my permission. And this happens a lot. You know what I mean? Also, I’ve had so many incidents where I’d burst into laughing when someone or I sing the wrong lyrics to a song. It’s really entertaining when the lyrics are easy to remember but you just go with what you heard or remember. The joy doubles when it involves dancing while singing the wrong lyrics—out loud—in front of others.

The last time I laughed HARD was when my cousin came over two days ago for a sleep over and I did the same dance in the Hindi movie we watched earlier that day and I didn’t really remember the lyrics but the song has been struck on my mouth lately and I could care less. (I do speak Hindi, not fluently, but adequately, in case you wondered.) It was a fast dance track and my cousin couldn’t stop laughing when she heard me singling the wrong lyrics while dancing. At first, I thought she was laughing because of my lousy performances and dancing, so I just kept dancing and had my fun anyway. And, then I saw her sliding the cell phone out of her jeans’ pockets and typing in something. Few seconds later, she flashed her screen before me waving the phone in the air and screaming out loud “Gaaaaawd, stop! I’m gonna die laughing, those are not even the words!!”

I glanced at the lyrics on the phone screen and couldn’t stop laughing. I had replaced the word “fall” in the song with my own word “border”. I don’t even know how in the world I misremembered the lyrics or thought ‘fall’ rhymes with ‘border’. It is weird—but, completely normal to me because I am person who always mistake lyrics. Somehow, it was funny that it made the night and made me laugh at my own silliness.

I still sing the wrong lyrics whenever I hum the song though…
